Itinerary

DAY 1
Arrival in Arusha

Upon your arrival at either Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), a representative from African Big Cats Safaris will greet you and transport you to your lodging in Arusha. Your overnight stay will be at Arusha Planet Lodge.

DAY 2
Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we set off for Tarangire National Park, named after the Tarangire River that sustains its wildlife during the dry season. Dense vegetation, including elephant grass and acacia woodlands, fills the landscape. The park is renowned for its elephant families gathering along the river, while sightings of giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests are common. Predators like lions and leopards roam these grounds, and Tarangire boasts the highest diversity of breeding bird species globally. With Tanzania's largest elephant population, the park offers prime opportunities to witness these gentle giants, from playful calves to imposing bulls. After a packed lunch, we head to Eileen's Tree Inn or a similar accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3
Ngorongoro Cater to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, we embark on a journey to Ngorongoro Crater, a sight reminiscent of a forgotten world upon first glance. This natural wonder offers the chance to encounter the endangered black rhino and prides of lions. Formed millions of years ago by a colossal volcanic eruption, the crater is celebrated for its geological marvels and as a sanctuary harboring some of Africa's highest densities of large mammals. The descent into the crater is an exhilarating adventure, leading to encounters with vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and over 500 bird species upon reaching the crater floor. It presents optimal opportunities to witness the elusive black rhino in its open grass habitat. Following a satisfying packed lunch, we proceed to Serengeti National Park, where dinner and overnight accommodations await at Embalakai Camp.

DAY 4
Serengeti National Park to Karatu

After an early breakfast, we commence our game viewing drive around 6:30 am, allowing for approximately 6 to 7 hours to immerse ourselves in the splendor of Serengeti National Park. Home to a rich array of wildlife including impalas, buffaloes, crocodiles, and hippos, the park is renowned for its iconic migrating herds, comprising 250,000 zebras, 1.5 million wildebeests, and 500,000 antelopes, whose movements are dictated by the rainfall patterns, varying each year. Alongside these migratory spectacles, opportunities abound to witness predators like leopards, cheetahs, and lions honing their hunting skills. By approximately 2:00 pm, we return to Karatu, where our carefully selected mid-range partner lodge awaits, featuring an excellently appointed restaurant, a refreshing pool for relaxation, and the option for a nightcap by the fire under the vast African sky, before retiring to our spacious accommodations at Eileen's Tree Inn for a night of comfort and dreams filled with the wonders of the wild.

DAY 5
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Following an early breakfast at the Lodge, we embark on a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park, situated approximately 120 km west of Arusha. Named after the shallow salt lake dominating much of its landscape, Manyara is characterized by its seasonal flooding and drying patterns, attracting thousands of flamingos and over 500 bird species. Our exploration of the park unveils a diverse array of wildlife, including monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, and if luck favors us, lions lounging in trees. Renowned for its varied landscapes encompassing open grassy plains, primate-filled woodlands, and cliffs adorned with baobab trees, Manyara offers a captivating safari experience. Following a satisfying packed lunch, we return to Arusha, concluding our adventure and arriving in time for your onward journey, whether it be a flight back home or to the enchanting island of Zanzibar.
