Itinerary

Day 1
Pick Up from the Airport

Upon arrival at either Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) or Arusha Airport (ARK), you will be met and transferred to Tulia Spa & Boutique Hotel. After check-in and settling into your accommodations, a comprehensive pre-hike briefing will be conducted by your guide. This session will detail the itinerary for each day of the trek, equipping you with a clear understanding of the journey ahead. Additionally, your guide will verify that you possess all the necessary gear required for a safe and successful Kilimanjaro climb.

Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

The adventure kicks off with a 4-hour drive from Arusha/Moshi to Londorossi Gate (entry point). After sorting park formalities, a short transfer leads us to the Lemosho trailhead. Fueled by lunch, we'll delve into the untouched rainforest, reaching Big Tree Camp by day's end.

Leaving behind the lush rainforest of Big Tree Camp, today's trek transitions into a landscape dominated by heather and moorland vegetation. This gradual ascent offers fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like antelope and klipspringer adapted to this high-altitude environment. Here, you'll be surrounded by the vast Shira Plateau, a unique volcanic landscape that offers a taste of the dramatic scenery to come.

Shira Camp 1 to Shira 2 to Moir Hut

Our journey continues eastward across the vast Shira Plateau, a high-altitude wonderland offering panoramic views of Kibo's glaciers. Today's moderate trek leads to Shira 2 Camp, nestled in the moorland. For a more adventurous acclimatization, opt for Moir Hut at the foot of Lent Hills, where various short hikes offer exceptional opportunities to adjust to the increasing altitude. Keep in mind, you'll be traversing one of Earth's highest plateaus – a unique experience in itself!

Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Today's trek involves a change in direction, heading southeast towards the imposing Lava Tower, nicknamed "Shark's Tooth." After passing this volcanic landmark, we'll reach a junction that leads us up to the Arrow Glacier, perched at a staggering 16,000ft. Following this high point, we'll descend to our overnight destination, Barranco Camp, nestled at 13,000ft within a semi-desert landscape. Enjoy a well-deserved rest, dinner, and a night's stay at this camp.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, we depart Barranco Camp and tackle the challenging Barranco Wall, a steep ridge. Our hike continues to Karanga Valley Camp. This is a shorter day designed to give your body more time to acclimatize to the altitude.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Departing Karanga after breakfast, we ascend to Barafu Camp via the Mweka Trail junction. This marks the South Circuit's end, offering panoramic summit views. Here, we camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit push. Witness the majestic peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo from this vantage point.

Summit to Mweka Hut

  • Elevation Gain: 19,341ft to 10,000ft
  • Distance: 12km (7.5 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest

At midnight, 12:00 am, we'll continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You'll head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the Kilimanjaro trekking. At Stella Point (18,600ft), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (if the weather permits). From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. You may need gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Following a well-deserved breakfast at Mweka Camp, we'll embark on our final descent through the lush rainforest. This 10km (6.2-mile) trek takes approximately 3-4 hours, culminating at the Mweka Park Gate. Here, you'll be greeted by our waiting vehicles for a comfortable transfer back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, marking the successful completion of your Kilimanjaro adventure!
